Website development ...

Whether your business is small or large, we'll work with you to establish and maintain an effective web presence. Definition, development, marketing, visibility, data acquisition, back-end databases ... our team can help.

We have a range of resources for projects ranging from simple (like this site) to complex. We build the site to suit the client's needs and budget. If the requirements are complex, we build the team to suit the project. We collaborate with other professionals who specialize in things like graphic design, Java programming, Cold Fusion, back-end web databases, etc.

Here's a list of some of the websites we've developed. We've included examples from opposite ends of the spectrum in terms of size and scope.

Here's a bit of background information about the development of these sites. None of them was developed with a long-range plan and a huge budget. These were all developed by working closely with the client, defining and refining "on the run." We suggest starting simple, and making incremental enhancements over a period of time. This allows strategy and design to be tailored to actual traffic and response patterns as the site evolves. The NETA and U of M sites eventually became large and complex. We're no longer involved with the U of M, as our process was incorporated into a complete redesign of all student information systems prior to 2000. Several of our subcontractors are now managing the NETA site.

National Exercise Trainers' Association  (NETA)

The www.netafit.org website introduces visitors to one of the largest organizations in the fitness industry. NETA provides certification workshops and continuing education for aerobics instructors and personal trainers throught the USA. We designed this site to establishe a simple on-line presence in 1997, and it's been expanded and enhanced it incrementally over the years.

NETA's site has grown to include on-line class registration and ordering of merchandise via a secure payment page. The schedule and merchandise pages are still direct outputs from their database system in HTML format, re-published on demand (typically once per week) by the push of a button.

We've developed a way to provide home-study course materials in an on-line format, and an interactive search page that enables users to locate an aerobics instructor or personal trainer in their home area.

SkiJumpingUSA / SkiJumpingCentral

Kenneth J Anderson & Associates is the owner and developer of www.skijumpingusa.com, which serves as a point of entry for information on all the ski jumping clubs in the US, plus information on competitions throughout the U.S. and overseas. This is an immensely popular sport in Europe, Scandinavia, and Japan, and we've got links to a number of good sites in other countries. The original site name was SkiJumpingCentral, and the transition to the new name took place at the beginning of the 2005 season.

Between the fall of 2001 and spring of 2008, this site drew three quarters of a million visitors. Our visitors spend an average of about five minutes per visit, a very high retention rate. We've established many links with related sites in the U.S. and worldwide, and have consistently been the most popular English-language ski jumping site in Google's search results, which are strictly based on traffic, frequency of updates, relevance to subject, and linkages to & from other sites with high scores.

Top Notch Treecare, Inc.

The www.topnotchtree.com site gives visitors a look at the company, its staff and services, and provides information on tree species common in Minnesota, along with common diseases and pests. This began as a very simple one-page site about 1999, and over the last few years the layout and most content has been taken over by capable in-house personnel. We continue to coordinate the publishing of some information from their database to the web.

Branch Manager Attachments

The www.branchmanagerattachments.com website incorporates pictures, specs, and prices of attachments for mini-skid loaders, primarily aimed at the tree service and landscaping industries. We created the logo and layout, and produced many videos of the products in action.

Gly-Tek Test Kit ... Nelco, Inc.

The www.gly-tek.com Nelco makes (and distributes worldwide) a test kit for the presence of antifreeze compounds in engine oil. It's tremendously useful to service shops and fleet operators to determine whether this kind of harmful contamination is present, and can eliminate need for a diagnostic teardown. The appearance of this site is very similar in content and layout to the company's brochure. It has a simple animated graphic on the homepage, and an order form that generates simultaneous e-mails to the buyer and to Nelco.

Cabinet Wholesalers

The www.cabinetwholesalersmn.com site was put online in spring 2004 as a one-page "brochure" site. Over the next few months the design was finalized and the second page, with "flipbook" of photos, was added.

University of Minnesota

Our first large-scale web project was a joint effort with the web team at the University of Minnesota in 1995. It was the web version of the Course Guide, which we'd developed as a printed publication starting for Spring Quarter, 1992. We published it quarterly, in HTML format, directly from the database system we developed for the printed version.

After developing the technique for publishing the Course Guide in web format, we tackled the Class Schedule, including the status of open seats in each section. Eventually, the system expanded to handle the same kinds of data for the U's three outstate campuses.

Both the Course Guide and Class Schedule can be accessed via links from the University's Enrollment & Course Information page. Once there, choose quarter and department to view course offerings and registration links.

In 1999 these functions fully incorporated into an overall systems redesign at the U of M, and we're no longer involved. But the essential look and feel, as well as the functionality, remains much as it was in our original web implementation.
