University of Minnesota
Our first large-scale web project was a joint effort with the web team at the
University of Minnesota
in 1995. It was the web version of the Course Guide,
which we'd developed as a printed publication starting for Spring Quarter,
1992. We published it quarterly, in HTML format, directly
from the database system we developed for the printed version.
After developing the technique for publishing the Course Guide
in web format, we tackled the Class Schedule, including the
status of open seats in each section. Eventually, the system expanded to
handle the same kinds of data for the U's three outstate campuses.
Both the Course Guide and
Class Schedule
can be accessed via links from the University's
Enrollment & Course Information
page. Once there, choose quarter and department to view course offerings and registration links.
In 1999 these functions fully incorporated into an overall systems
redesign at the U of M, and we're no longer involved. But the essential
look and feel, as well as the functionality, remains much as it was in our
original web implementation.
